The Countdown to "Amateur Night" (New Year's Eve) Begins...I Need a Cocktail!

Mexican-style Squirrel Horchata

Chilean/Peruvian-style Inca Trail

As a former bartender, I have had my fair share of festive evenings and celebrations that involved spirituous drinks. I also can say I have seen some pretty nasty sides of folks emerge once the liquor has kicked in and Dr. Jekyll has usurped Mr. Hyde. I therefore know well that New Year's Eve is notorious as a night when the demons that are usually kept subdued in people who are not accustomed to having any kind of alcoholic fun in their regular routines, come out and wreck havoc on the lives of everyone else, hence the "Amateur Night" moniker. That is why these days I try to ring in the new year with close friends or new acquaintances, in the relaxed comforts of someone's place, while enjoying tidings of good cheer over stiff libations made with some homemade love. Here are a few inspiring cocktail lists (as well as some themed food ideas) that I have collected that will help guide you into an amateur-free New Years! The first one is especially fantastic - Cheers!
